Unusual Sports Women and Men Play

Take a look at some of the most unusual sports women and men play all around the world.

Regardless of how they were invented, take a look at some of the most unusual sports women and men play all around the world.

Underwater Hockey
While we all know about hockey, a lot of people don’t know about underwater hockey, also known as Octopush. This surely comes across as one of the most unusual sports given how it is played underwater.
Underwater hockey was invented by the British Navy in the 1950s as a way to keep their divers perfectly fit and boost their agility underwater. This sport is typically played in a 25m x 15m pool that is somewhere between 2 - 4 m deep. Underwater hockey definitely sounds like a fun sport for people of all age groups with simple rules that are easy to follow.

Toe Wrestling
Wrestling is another common sport that has edged into a form of theatre which we all know of and have seen on the television. But, over time, this fierce sport gave birth to one of its most bizarre variants called toe wrestling, where opponents lock their feet, battle with their toes, and use all their toe power and might to pin the other person’s foot down. Toe wrestling is quite similar to arm wrestling, except that it’s super comical and is such an amusing sight to witness. However, the origin of this sport is funnier than the competition itself!

Bubble Soccer
Again, we all know about soccer, but this popular sport also happens to have a funny relative called Bubble Soccer. This sport consists of teams of five players whose upper bodies and heads are encased within an inflated bubble. It’s typically played in large, open outdoor spaces and follows the same rules and objectives as your regular soccer. This sport might sound the same as soccer, but it’s definitely so much more fun to watch and play as well with your bubble-encased upper body hitting against other players’ inflated bubbles.

Bed Racing
Born out of an interesting mix of enjoyment and interest, Bed Racing is yet another unusual sport that truly goes to suggest that laziness has never been this competitive! Bed racing is one a favorite sport of Knaresborough, North Yorkshire, where the annual Knaresborough Bed Race is also held. The first every bed racing competition in 1965 was only open to American Marines, Army, and Navy, but now it’s open for anyone.

Barefoot Water Skiing
As the name suggests, this is a skiing sport in which you ski behind a motorboat without using water skis.
It’s also known as barefooting and it requires the skier to ski at higher speeds as compared to conventional water skiing.

Skydiving
Although skydiving is quite a popular sport activity, it is still unusual given how the individual is suspended from high above the ground in the air. You basically transition from a high point in the atmosphere back to the earth’s surface with the help of gravity. Skydiving is also known as parachuting where you jump from an aircraft, stay in the air for a bit and then safely land by parachute.

Cheese Rolling
Known as England’s strangest sport, Cheese Rolling really does live up to its title and reputation. There’s an actual cheese-rolling event hosted by the South Wales England Gloucester, and so many people from far and wide attend the event. There are three main requirements for the cheese rolling sport – a hill, a wheel of cheese, and a group of people with no fear of lactose intolerance. Originally, the goal of the cheese rolling sport was to catch the wheel of cheese; however, this became quite dangerous because the rolling cheese ended up injuring many spectators. While this sport might be based on a silly, senseless concept, the actual contest is extremely intense and harder than it sounds.

Are these Unusual Sports Unusual Enough for You?
These are just a few of the hundreds of unusual sports women and men play across the globe, many of which are simply beyond normal human comprehension! However, one can’t deny the fact that some of these sports sound super hilarious and would definitely be so entertaining to watch or even play!
